Highlights of 2010 KVRC AGM
Fri 29 January, 2010 – 1:40 pm | by admin1 We are financially in much the same shape as we were last year with £4,479.11 in our reserve account, and an overall surplus of £400 year on year. We also have £1,382 worth of kit in club colours, available for sale to club members at Askews Cycles in Wildman Street, Kendal (please pop in if you need a new racing jersey, training top or even, perhaps, a skinsuit for the new season – Tony and Chris are always pleased to see you).
2 Annual subscriptions for 2010 remain £10 for adults, £2.50 for juniors and £1.50 for juveniles. These are now due and should be sent to our membership secretary, Bruce Barnes at 22, Low Cottage, Endmoor, Kendal, Cumbria, LA8 OHB. If your personal details (postal or web address) have changed, please download a new application form from this website and send it with your cheque (made payable to the Kent Valley Road Club) to Bruce. We are trying to keep our electronic database up to date so that we can contact everyone without adding postage to the running cost of the club.
3 Main officers elected for 2010 are: President – Mike Howson; Vice President – Albert Holding; Chairman – Bruce Barnes; Vice-Chairman – Fred Pickstone; Secretary – Richard Belk; Treasurer – Tim Bennett; Road Race Secretary – Steve Gove; Time Trials Secretary – Fred Pickstone. In addition, Terry Tideswell, Matt Woods and Albert Holding were elected to join Bruce, Fred, Richard, Tim and Steve on the committee. There were no volunteers for the role of social secretary at the AGM so it was agreed that one will be co-opted to the committee at a future date.
4 There were 28 club Time Trials in 2009 with a total of 487 rides by individuals. For a summer that did not seem all that good we lost no events to the weather and only one event, a Milnthorpe 10, had to be abandoned because of a traffic accident on the course. Levens Club 10s developed through the season into excellent events with a developing rivalry between Kent Valley and Cleveleys RC followed by enjoyable suppers in the Strickland Arms. The change in the day to a Sunday morning for the Shap & Back event proved to be a great success with a good field of 22 riders including 6 from Cleveleys.
5 Special thanks were expressed to Mike Birkett, who has decided to step down as KVRC’s social secretary. His post event ‘hot-pots’ were very popular, particularly after inter-club gatherings. And the annual awards night buffet at the Ivy Leaf Club in October (Mike’s idea) is beginning to grow in popularity – we even had a quiz after the food and presentations at our last ‘do’.
6 The Kent Valley has been asked to provide three marshals for the NLTTA 100 miles time trial, now the only one in the association’s area, on Saturday, June 26th, at Cockermouth. Antony Gill volunteered to stand on a corner so we now need just two more to make up our club’s quota. The event starts at 1pm.
