August 15th 2017 - club update
Shap & Back
Our annual Shap and Back 28-mile hilly time trial is next Sunday (August 20th). It starts at 10am from lay-by beside A6 just north of new Kendal Rugby Club complex. Signing on is also in that lay-by and there is plenty of space to park either there or at lay-by on opposite side of road further up the A6. There are awards for the fastest three on actual time and fastest three on handicap (using a formula based on fastest Milnthorpe 10s times this season). Awards are for First Claim club members only but all are welcome to ride - the weather forecast is improving!
Date-fixing for 2018
Sandwiches & chips have provisionally being booked for 8.30pm on Wednesday, August 30th, at the Cross Keys Hotel, Milnthorpe, following our final Milnthorpe 10 time trial of the season, so we can re-fuel while discussing what events we plan to organise next year. We currently run two road races and five open time trials plus our club events, audaxes and annual sportive, and we need a new organiser for the Milnthorpe open 15 time trial in May as Tim Bennett can no longer fit that in after a busy working day. If anyone would like to step in please volunteer at our meeting. We help all our event organisers but without an individual at the helm the event will not take place.
Our award-winners from our Club Championship 25 and Championship 10 need to note that this year's awards dinner will be at The Villa (just off the Levens 25 course) on November 10th. But points are still up for grabs in our club time trials competition so get out there and see what you can do. We have a Milnthorpe 10 tomorrow (Wednesday), our final Jungle Cafe hilly next week and then our final Milnthorpe 10 on August 30th!
Claim you standards
If you are claiming a club standard award, which will also be presented at our annual dinner, please let me have details of when you achieved it and where so I can get your award sorted in time. Details of our standard times are on the Kent Valley RC webpage.
Tunstall Trophy hillies
I believe Barrow Central Wheelers are current leaders in the Tunstall Trophy inter-club hillies series, but the next scoring event will be the Gamswell HC from Ulverston (see BCW's website for details) starting at 6.30pm on Monday, September 4th. Let's see if we can boost our club points total there. The last hillies series counting event is Lancaster CC's Jubilee Tower HC on September 24th.
Bob Swailes Memorial Road Race
Our Bob Swailes road race is also on September 24th on the Old Hutton Circuit. Organiser Tom Gibson will need marshals and help on the day so please mark the date if you aren't up to riding the Jubilee Tower hill. We will be putting out another call for help before then....
