June 7th 2017 - club update
Last Sunday saw saw 38 riders complete our first ever KVRC open Audax UK rides: a 207k “Tour du Lakes” route from Kendal Rugby Club and a 100k “Wyre Whirl” route Well done to our now official Audax UK organiser Paul Latham and his wife Julie, ably assisted by Steve Scott and his wife Sandra, for putting on two superb routes with great back-up and welcome pie and peas at the end. All being well our next club audax ride on July 2nd will be a 100k venture into the North Dales from the Sedbergh Cyclefest. Details are still being finalised but will be posted when complete.
Midsummer time trials call for help
Our annual midsummer charity time trials – Tim Bennett’s Saturday evening 10 on Levens (June 17th) and Richard Bryan’s Edwin Howson Memorial 25 (June 18th) also on Levens – are looming fast and we still need help with marshals for both, and pushers off for Saturday’s 10 (it looks like being a full field of 120 riders). The 25 incorporates this year’s Inter-Club Shields 25 (best three to score for men and two for women) but if you aren’t riding, or doing the Giant sportive at Lowther, then please let me know if you can help on either day. I’ll pass your details on to the organisers.
SPOCO organiser wanted
Work commitments are forcing Tim Bennett to give up organising our midweek open 15-mile SPOCO time trial – he is simply struggling to get to the event HQ in time to head the operation. So, if we are going to promote it again next May we will need a new organiser. Our annual date-fixing meeting is not until August 30th (following our last Milnthorpe 10 - please note in your diaries) so you have plenty of time to persuade yourself! It would be a shame to lose a well-supported open time trial through lack of an organiser. Guidance can be given with the organisational duties.
Tunstall Trophy hilly TT
We are hosting the next round in the season-long Tunstall Trophy hilly time trial series next Wednesday (June 14th) - on our Old Hutton Circuit, starting at 7pm under the M6 bridge on the Old Town road out of Old Hutton. There are points for the first 50 riders so everyone has a chance to earn points for their club. And if you can't ride then please offer to marshal. Ideally we need at least three to ensure no-one rides of course, plus alerting other road-users to our riders using those usually very quiet lanes.
