September 18th 2018 - September update
Full field for Bob Swailes Road Race
We have a full field plus reserves for this coming Sunday’s Bob Swailes Memorial Road Race on the Old Hutton circuit, but could still do with volunteers to help marshal the corners. The race starts at 10am (neutral roll-out from Endmoor Village Hall, race starts at top of Barkin House hill). If you can help then please let me know and I’ll pass your names on to our organiser, Duncan Orme.
Test your map-reading
There was an encouraging turnout for the first Giant Shop/KVRC Winters Lanequests on September 2nd and the next one is on October 7th, then November 4th and December 2nd. Test your map-reading skills while riding your bike. They are super fun.
90th Anniversary Awards Night
Our 90th Anniversary Awards Night is at Kendal Rugby Club on Friday, November 9th, and our guest speaker is Dr Phil Leigh, who started out riding with us 45 years ago he tells me, and is now Director of Business Engagement and Enterprise for Science and Engineering at the University of Hull. He is still KVRC’s 24-hour record-holder! Tickets for a club-subsidised three-course meal are only £20 each and they will be available to purchase at Sunday’s Road Race or directly from me. Let’s make it a bumper celebration to mark our 90th. Award-winners will be contacted in due course because we want them there to collect their awards - no excuses!
If we all gain a little extra weight at the dinner there is the chance to put it to good use on Sunday, November 18th, when we hold our annual freewheel contest from Old Town to Kirkby Lonsdale, starting at 11am. Meanwhile, try to support our club rides on Thursdays (9.30am) and Sundays (9am) from Kendal Leisure Centre.
