September 1st 2017 - club update

Thanks for your input

A massive thank-you to all who took part in our online survey about next year’s KVRC events. It really has helped shape a 2018 programme for all. And thanks to the 17 members at Wednesday’s date-fixing meeting in the pub, who debated what we will be offering. A full list of nearly 40 events, apart from club rides, will be coming out as soon as we have confirmed our proposed open event dates with the CTT and British Cycling. We know when we want them but there may be clashes to resolve!

Road race marshalling plea

But before we get to next year’s events, this year’s Bob Swailes Memorial Road Race is on the Old Hutton Circuit on Sunday, September 24th, and organiser Tom Gibson still needs four more volunteers to help marshal the road junctions. Congratulations to Tom and Liz who have just become parents. They clearly have a lot on at the moment so please let me or Steve Gove know if you can help.

Club awards

Our last midweek time trial of the season was on Wednesday so we now know all our 2017 championship prize-winners, but only one rider has claimed a time standard award. As non-championship awards these are open to second-claim riders as well as first claim KVRC members so if you think you qualify please check with the Standards Table on our website and then let me know the time you achieved and the date, and in which age category. All awards will be presented at our Awards Night Dinner on November 10th and a list of award-winners will be sent out with our October KVRC update along with dinner ticket details.

Fun on wheels

This coming Sunday is the first of this winter's monthly Lanequest events (two hours of orienteering on a bike). They are great fun and are really fulfilling if you get the thinking bit right! Factory Tap just off Aynam Road in Kendal is the venue for this first event. You may still be able to pre-enter at the Giant Shop but if you can’t they are being held on the first Sunday of each month apart from January. Entry fees covers “controls maps”, scorecards and a bar snack afterwards, provided you pre-enter in time.

Re-arranged Audax Ride

We are hoping to re-arrange this weekend’s intended Audax Ride (a more extended test of navigation skills and pedalling stamina) on Sunday, September 10th. Please check Facebook during next week for details.
