Time trials

Why Time Trial? blog

Kent Valley Road Club’s midweek club time trials are held on Wednesday evenings, starting at 7pm, running from April through to the end of August. Entry fees are £4 for KVRC members (1st or 2nd claim) and £5 for guests from other clubs.

We have a season-long best all-rounder competition for men, women and juniors/juveniles based on finishing points achieved in eight club 10s, two club hilly events and one of our four open KVRC time trials. We also have a club 10s poin ts competition (best points haul from ten rides), a 25-mile club championship and a 10 miles championship. Riders score a maximum 20pts for marshalling a club 10 or hilly time trial (just the once) which is included in their points tallies, so it pays to volunteer!

Only first claim members or those whose other racing team/club does not time trial qualify for our championships, but everyone (first or second claim) can target our Standard Awards – see below.

The first five places in our Milnthorpe 10s will be reserved for “come and try it” riders or those less confident of starting among faster riders later in the field. But time trials are all about the personal challenge of registering a time and then trying to improve it during the course of the summer – they are for everyone and you don’t need to be riding a specialised bike to take part.

Riders must be 12 or over and those under 18 will be required to provide a completed Cycling Time Trials parental consent form at signing on (in the car park across the road from the Spar Shop/filling station at Milnthorpe).

"Road bike" time trials

We realise that not everyone has the money to own a time trial specific bike, which is why we're now presenting an award for the rider of a standard road bike with most points from their highest ten results. The only rules are aero bars, helmets and wheels deeper than 50mm are not permitted.

Club standard awards

Club standard awards for first and second claim club members, juniors, seniors and veterans (10 miles only for vets at this stage) will be able to target standard times to gain "gold", "silver" and "bronze" awards to be presented annually at our awards gethering.

They offer everyone riding a time trial a chance to be a winner, whatever their finishing position. But the onus is on riders to submit their standard claims to our Time Trials Secretary in September.
